St. Patty’s Day & Spring Break

Spring Break and St. Patty’s Day

By Sophie Emerson

Spring break is finally here after a long-anticipated wait. Congrats on making it halfway through the semester Rams! If you are still in Fort Collins for spring break, there are lots of activities to keep you busy.

Although Fort Collins no longer holds a St. Patty’s Day parade, one of the more popular yearly events is the Sharin’ O’ The Green 5k which is held Saturday, March 11, 2023. Participants get a custom t-shirt, socks, as well as a ticket upon completion for post-race food and beverages since the race finishes at Odell Brewing.

However, if you choose to not partake in this event because you weren’t born into a Turkey Trot type of family, there are still many fun things to do during your break.

Here are a few activities that don’t require as much exertion:

  • St Patty’s Day themed ghost tour in Old Town to learn about old Irish tales in your college town ($20 per person 21 years or older)
  • Explore new restaurants and try St. Patty’s Day themed foods such as corned beef
  • Catch up on sleep!

If you would rather stay away from the crowds, getting outside is also a great way to decompress after 8 weeks of spring semester. Be sure to take advantage of all the open outdoor recreation areas nearby, including Horsetooth Reservoir, Lory State Park, Arapaho & Roosevelt National Forests, and Rocky Mountain National Park. In these areas, you can take advantage of the many miles of trails to go hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, horseback riding, or even trail running if you want to humble everyone else on the trails.

Have a great spring break and be safe Rams!!
